City of Cheboygan Ice Rink Pavilion

The City of Cheboygan Ice Rink/Pavilion was built in 1992. The facility was funded by some private donations but primarily funded by a bond which was paid by a special assessment of all City of Cheboygan tax-payers over a ten year period, and by a State of Michigan grant. The facility is used primarily for hockey, figure skating, and leisure / family skating from September through March. April through August, the facility has been used for a variety of functions, such as the Chamber of Commerce Home Show, circuses, wrestling, cage boxing, art fairs, Little League Baseball State Tournament dinners, and can be an ideal location for concerts.

The Ralph G. Cantile Arena

The Arena is named after the late Ralph G. Cantile. Ralph was a dedicated coach and promoter of youth hockey in Cheboygan, and was instrumental in the process to plan and build the arena in Cheboygan, as Chairman of the City of Cheboygan Recreation Committee. Ralph was also the rink’s first Rink Manager. Ralph was the Head Coach of the first, and to this date only, youth hockey state championship team — when his team won the 1995 Midget B State Championship.
